The RSA conference—held annually in beautiful San Francisco—is one of the largest gatherings of security professionals in the world. (Last year’s conference hosted about 30,000 attendees!) This year, RSA will be held February 29-March 4; so with it right around the corner, we wanted to give you a chance to properly prepare. We’ve created this 2016 RSA Survival Guide to help you out!
Before we explain more about our guide, here are a few tips to get you prepared for RSA.
Tips For RSA Survival
- Connect with peers before, during, and after. Before you take off for the city by the bay, be sure to connect with other folks you know are going. This helps foster your network in the security space and will help you plan out your busy schedule once you arrive. When you’re there, check out the Birds of a Feather networking events, so you can make some new contacts in the space. The Moscone Center also has charging areas, so if you need to charge up your devices, take the time to connect with the people nearby. You never know who you’re sitting next to! And once you leave the conference, be sure to keep in contact with the people you meet.
- Navigate the exhibit halls as a team. Seeing the technologies and solutions security companies are working on is always a highlight of the conference—but it can be tricky to navigate. The vendors are split into two locations, and it’s pretty easy to get lost! Our suggestion is to meet back up with your team, co-workers, or friends in the space to go through the exhibit halls. It makes it a whole lot more fun and less overwhelming.

- Choose your sessions wisely. A lot of folks head out to RSA without viewing the potential sessions they can select from beforehand. But remember, there are different types of passes at RSA; some allow you to attend several sessions and others allow you to only attend one session. If your pass allows for only one session, select it carefully! You may not get the chance to go to RSA again, so you’ll want to choose one that is best suited for you and your company.
